Bienvenidos - Welcome
Founded by Margarita Cardona in 2012, Biblioteca Luz is the first library for children in the port town of La Libertad, El Salvador. With the help of several generous donations by friends and family members, Cardona was able to begin fulfilling her lifelong dream to open a library in her native country of El Salvador. In the summer of 2012, Cardona traveled to Nicaragua with her son and daughter to receive training with the Libraries For All Foundation. In Nicaragua, Cardona made Biblioteca Luz's first purchase of 300 books, which she and her family dutifully transported via public bus back to El Salvador. Today, Biblioteca Luz has accumulated over 800 books ranging from young childrens' titles to adult literature in both Spanish and English. The library also features educational games, puzzles, arts and crafts and other activities for the children to enjoy during the day. Biblioteca Luz is open Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and regularly draws a group of up to 30 students age 4 to 15 each and every day with growing popularity.
